A recent photograph taken at Asbestos Roof Solutions current site, shows three different roof sheets, adjacent to each other.
Sheet 1 Sheet 2 Sheet 3
From the left (Sheet1) we can see a super six profile roof skylight sheet made from the latest fibreglass technology.
The middle sheet, (Sheet2) which is super six profile, but does not have asbestos as a component, was produced when asbestos was banned in the late eighties. This sheets asbestos was replaced with cellulose fibres.
The sheet on the right hand (Sheet3) is also a super six profile sheet containing bonded asbestos. The asbestos sheet (Sheet3) is forty plus years old while its replacement (Sheet2) is only 20 plus years old and is clearly fretting badly.
This unusual grouping of asbestos roof materials shows that the original bonded asbestos products are long lasting and serve their purpose well. Once encapsulated, these roof sheets can be rendered safe and will in fact prolong the service life of the building.
